Simple MagSafe Adapter#97

Hi team,

I have seen the MagSafe Adapter on Kickstarter. It definitely adds lots of functions but the downside is that it is also slightly bulkier.

Will you consider having another simpler MagSafe Adapter, one that is of similar size as that of your original Adapter Plate? This should appeal to novice shooters like me.

Yes 100% sold to the idea of a minimal MagSafe attachment option, or a modular version where you can addon thumb grip or tripod mount will be nice too

Hi Tauruskoo and Rui Hang - I wish that was possible! We’ve already made the Adapter as small as we think is possible. Compared to the MagSafe iPhone Case, it adds about 3.5mm in overall thickness to accommodate the stronger magnets.

Also, both the thumb rest and the palm rest (the curved frame that contains the tripod attachment) are - unfortunately - necessary to keep the phone safely attached: They prevent your hand from pushing the iPhone off the MagSafe Adapter. The magnets are super strong, but without the thumb rest and palm rest, your hand would exert a sideways force onto the phone - so the magnets can slide off. In theory, the thumb rest is removable, but it’s not something we’d recommend doing.

In our MagSafe cases, the connection is a physical latch, and with the original Adapter Plate, the connection is the 3M adhesive. They can’t slide off the phone - that’s why we don’t need the thumb rest or palm rest.

I felt the same thing, but this makes total sense. On the flip side there might be a solution. If you extend the magsafe adapter such that the fjorden butts up to the very edge of the phone then sideways pressure would no longer be exerted. It slightly messes with positioning l, but I feel it’s less intrusive than extra metal sticking out and would allow a smaller footprint perhaps. Something to think about!

Hi @Ryan Filgas and @Victor , I have actually been working on making one for myself - modified from the original Adaptor Plate. Works quite well in the sense that it securely attaches on my phone. I have no worries that it will drop off. The downside is that it is now a lot thicker than I hope it to be.
